WHY WE DEVELOPED APPCAN
We’ve worked in mobile technology and the utility construction industry for more than 30 years. In that time we’ve been consumers too, so we knew the particular challenges of collecting, distributing and filing data from construction project sites. We also knew developing bespoke software was very expensive and time-consuming.
With that in mind, we set about creating a simple, cost-effective product that could be easily customised to meet the needs of any business with people working in the field. A solution that would transform the collection of field data but would also act as an extension of the back office. It had to be easy to use for non-technical people. It needed to be secure to protect valuable data. And it had to work on existing hardware.

JOHN ANDERSON – CEO & DIRECTOR
John graduated as a Civil Engineer, entering the construction industry in the late 80’s, and via a career predominantly within the UK utility construction industry, has created a technology business within the mobile data management sector.
His career has been shaped by positions held in Transportation and Plant Management, Procurement, Operations and Data Management.
With his experience and industry knowledge in utility construction, John helps businesses implement AppCan across their field team operations.
BOYD NEAL – CTO & DIRECTOR
Boyd has over 25 years experience in delivering logistic-based solutions, such as field mobility, scheduling, works management and telematic systems. You could say he has grown up with mobile technology so his role at AppCan, implementing low-cost mobile solutions to a field-based workforce, is a natural progression.
Boyd specialises in the use of mobile to secure productivity improvements and increase levels of compliance, cost reduction and risk mitigation – all the while reducing the impact of construction activities upon the environment.
