APPCAN FEATURES – PARENT & CHILD RECORDS

CREATE MULTIPLE TASKS FROM ONE RECORD

Building and maintaining dynamic ‘Parent/Child’ relationships within database architecture is very complex, but AppCan now includes an ingenious but simple-to-use method of allowing you to build ‘Data Collector’ apps that automatically break single submitted ‘Parent’ records into separate ‘Child’ parts.

At the heart of this process is our unique ‘One-to-Many’ feature. Administrators simply submit ‘One’ record containing multiple tasks. These individual tasks are then automatically split into ‘Many’ separate rows within AppCan’s Planning and Scheduling interface.

This feature delivers the following user benefits:

  • Field force users create, and submit, a single record containing many repeating sections of data

  • Back-office team members receive the record neatly broken down into its repeating parts (one per row)

  • Back office teams can interact with separate rows, assigning them to other mobile users for further actions to be performed, recorded and returned

Consider the example of ‘Reinstatement Requests’ – where a single submitted record might contain many tasks for reinstating different holes in different locations on a street. Your back office teams don’t want to receive a single record containing lots of data, it’s very hard to work with. But if the record is automatically broken into its constituent parts, life becomes much easier for everyone.  Using ‘One-to-Many’ Data Collectors also makes building apps and forms much easier too.

AppCan’s unique ‘One-to-Many’ Data Collector feature significantly streamlines many processes:

  • Timesheets

  • Plant returns
  • Order requisitions
  • Surveys with repeating survey elements, e.g. each floor in a block of flats
  • Tracksheets

  • Snagging / defect requirements

  • Health and safety inspection actions
